The nine-day holiday break ends today.
Macau.- Immigration data released by the Public Security Police Force (PSP) indicates that 1.397 million visitors entered Macau over the first eight days of the nine-day Chinese New Year break, which started on February 15 and ends today (February 23).
The city received an average of nearly 174,722 visitors per day and saw three consecutive days of more than 200,000 arrivals. Thursday, February 19, saw an all-time record of 227,943 entries.
Most tourists entered Macau via the Border Gate checkpoint, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, and the Hengqin checkpoint.
Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, the director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), had forecast a daily influx of 158,000 to 175,000 arrivals and between 1.4 and 1.5 million over the whole nine-day holiday period. Last year’s tally was 1.31 million.
