More details have been released on Japan’s first integrated resort.
Japan.- Architectural documents cited by Japanese media outlets have revealed more details about MGM Osaka, which will be the first casino resort in Japan. The venue will feature a 27-storey tower rising 126 metres.
With a curved shape reminiscent of MGM’s Bellagio property in Las Vegas, the building will accommodate two hotels with a combined total of about 1,840 rooms, alongside a theatre and other entertainment facilities.
Developed by a consortium led by MGM Resorts International and Japanese financial group ORIX, the project will occupy close to 50 hectares near the former Osaka-Kansai Expo site on Yumeshima Island in Osaka Bay.
The casino will cover more than 23,000 square metres, housing approximately 470 table games and around 6,400 electronic gaming machines, which will put MGM Osaka among the largest casino floors in Asia.
A third hotel, 56 metres high with 13 above-ground floors, will add a further 660 rooms and spaces for cultural experiences such as traditional tea ceremonies.
Plans include a four-storey convention and exhibition complex spanning roughly 16.7 hectares, with two exhibition halls, multiple meeting rooms and extensive parking facilities. The development will also feature an international exhibition centre, a ferry terminal and additional resort infrastructure aimed at boosting both leisure and business tourism in the Kansai region.
Construction began in April 2024, and the resort is scheduled to open in the autumn of 2030.
