Sri Lanka.- The biggest lottery jackpot ever offered in Sri Lanka has been claimed, the Development Lotteries Board has reported. According to officials, the winning ticket was purchased in the Girandurukotte area of Badulla District. It prize was Rs. 629,855,919.60 (US$6.94m).
The winner will be officially confirmed after the ticket’s authenticity is verified and all required legal, financial and compliance procedures related to the payout are completed.
The winnings will be taxed once at 14 per cent under regulations governing lottery prizes. Revenue generated from ticket sales and tax collections is credited to the President’s Fund and directed towards national development and welfare programmes.
