Police in Phnom Penh detained the suspects in two coordinated raids.
Cambodia.- Police in Cambodia have arrested 10 South Korean nationals accused of operating illegal online gambling and fraud schemes, as part of an ongoing campaign to dismantle cybercrime networks. Police carried out two coordinated raids in the capital, Phnom Penh, targeting locations in the Sen Sok and Russey Keo districts.
According to the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS), five suspects were detained on March 3 at Borey Vimean Phnom Penh in Russey Keo, while another five were arrested a day earlier at Borey Pipup Thmey in Sen Sok. It said the two groups were linked to the same network, which allegedly operated illegal online gambling websites and online fraud targeting victims in South Korea and other countries.
During the operations, investigators seized US$19,700 in cash along with eight desktop computers, 18 monitors, three laptops, four mobile phones and six passports. Among those arrested was Kim Changhan, identified as the alleged ringleader. Officials said he was the subject of an arrest warrant issued in South Korea for operating illegal gambling platforms.
The operation was conducted under the direction of Khuong Sreng, the governor of Phnom Penh, with participation from the municipal police, the Royal Gendarmerie, and local authorities, and was coordinated by prosecutors from the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.
The arrests come amid a broader crackdown on cybercrime operations across the country. On March 1, Cambodian authorities detained 24 additional suspects in the Chamkar Mon district who were allegedly involved in online fraud schemes.
