The hub allegedly ran online scams and cybercrime operations.
The Philippines.- A joint operation against an alleged online gambling operation in Bonifacio Global City, Manila, has led to 112 arrests – 95 Filipinos and 17 foreign nationals. The police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-NCR), the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), and the Southern Police District are said to have uncovered the operation while trying to capture a Chinese fugitive wanted for fraud.
The hub allegedly presented itself as an IT solutions firm while secretly running online scams and cybercrime operations. Investigators suspect the Chinese national may have served as an interpreter. The facility wasn’t registered with the gambling regulator, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
The CIDG is now verifying the work permits of the foreign nationals. Those arrested claim they weren’t involved in illegal gambling.
