Singapore.- Police in Singapore have launched investigations into 36 people aged between 16 and 69 for alleged involvement in illegal online gambling and the misuse of bank accounts. The cases emerged following operations conducted between November 10 and 21.
Some 13 are being investigated for illegal gambling under the Gambling Control Act 2022. Police say these suspects allegedly placed bets through illegal gambling websites or mobile applications and conducted financial transactions linked to syndicate-controlled bank accounts.
The remaining 23 people are being investigated for offences under the Computer Misuse Act 1993, Penal Code 1871, and the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act. Some are suspected of selling or surrendering their bank accounts and Singpass credentials while others were deceived into handing over access after responding to fraudulent job advertisements.
