Australia.- The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has requested that online service providers (ISPs) block five more unlicensed online gambling sites for violating the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. The sites are Slot Lounge, Betzillo, FastSpin99, Spinit and PokiesPros.
The ACMA says that since it made its first blocking request in November 2019, 1,322 illegal gambling and affiliate websites have been blocked. Around 220 illegal services have pulled out of the Australian market since the ACMA started enforcing new illegal online gambling rules in 2017.
The Australian regulator reminded consumers that even if a service looks legitimate, it’s unlikely to have important customer protections. Customers can check if a wagering service is licensed to operate in Australia on its register.
In August, ACMA issued a request to block four gambling websites. It also ordered Betfair to pay a AU$871,660 (US$567,082) penalty after breaching spam laws in commercial messages sent to VIP customers.
