The Cyber Security Ordinance 2025 imposes up to two years in prison for online gambling, fraud, and deception.
Bangladesh.- The Cyber Security Ordinance 2025 introduces new penalties for online gambling, fraud, and deception. Anyone involved in creating, operating, participating in or promoting online gambling faces up to two years in prison, a fine of up to BDT10m (US$81.400), or both.
The ordinance specifies that running gambling portals or apps, assisting, encouraging, or advertising such activities are punishable offences under Section 20 of Chapter VI. Meanwhile, online forgery carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine of BDT2m (US$16.000), or both, while fraud or deception could lead to up to five years in jail and fines up to BDT5m (US$40.000).
The Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology said that law enforcement agencies have ramped up surveillance on these activities.
