The National Cyber Security Agency has issued a legal notice threatening to block the cricket website.
Bangladesh.- The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) has issued a legal notice to ESPNcricinfo, accusing the cricket website of promoting illegal online gambling advertisements and failing to comply with tax laws. The notice, sent to ESPN Sports Media Group Ltd on October 12, demands immediate removal of betting-related content and compliance with Bangladesh’s Cyber Safety Ordinance 2025, with a warning that failure could lead to the platform being blocked in Bangladesh.
The NCSA alleges that ESPNcricinfo has been displaying ads for online betting and gambling, which is prohibited under Bangladeshi law. It said the ads target Bangladeshi audiences specifically, with no such content appearing on the platform in countries like Australia or England. The agency also claims ESPNcricinfo has not paid the required taxes or value-added tax (VAT) on advertising revenue generated in Bangladesh.
The notice gives ESPNcricinfo seven working days to confirm compliance, remove all prohibited content, and provide details of its advertising and revenue operations for tax verification.
