Authorities cite raids, prosecutions and international cooperation as part of an ongoing crackdown.

Cambodia.- Authorities say online scam activity has declined by around 50 per cent since the start of 2026 amid enforcement action against criminal networks linked to fraud and illegal online gambling. Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith, head of the Commission for Combating Technology Crimes, said the figure was a preliminary estimate.

“The problem of online scams has fallen to just 50 per cent,” Chhay Sinarith said, noting that investigations into multiple cases are still ongoing. Officials have not disclosed how many compounds are believed to remain active.

According to government figures, nearly 200 suspected scam sites have been dismantled in recent months, with close to 500 suspects charged and detained and thousands of foreign nationals deported. Authorities are tracking financial flows and personal assets in more than 100 ongoing investigations.

The enforcement drive comes amid international pressure from countries including China and the United States to address scam compounds that proliferated during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has publicly acknowledged the economic and reputational impact.

Despite reported progress, analysts note that criminal groups involved in online scams and illegal gambling are highly adaptable, often relocating or adjusting tactics in response to enforcement measures. Officials say that raids, prosecutions and international cooperation will continue.
