Authorities have suspended the licences of casinos in Preah Sihanouk and Svay Rieng provinces, citing evidence of large-scale online fraud.
Cambodia.- The licences of five casinos in Cambodia have been suspended due to suspicions of links to scam operations. The General Secretariat of the Commercial Gambling Management Commission of Cambodia (CGMC) said it suspended the licences of four casinos in Preah Sihanouk province linked to the Jin Bei Group on October 16.
It also suspended the licence of Silver Star Casino in Svay Rieng province after a a police operation amid suspicions that cyber fraud operations were being run from the property. The raid led to the arrest of 23 individuals of multiple nationalities, including two Taiwanese and one Malaysian national, identified as the alleged ringleaders.
“After obtaining sufficient evidence, the CGMC has suspended the license of Silver Star Casino, preventing it from continuing its business operations,” the CCTC said in a statement. Three suspects have been referred to the Svay Rieng Provincial Court for prosecution, while 20 others have been transferred to the General Department of Immigration for deportation. Authorities seized dozens of phones and passports.
