Si will oversee day-to-day operational performance and enhancement of guest experience.
Singapore.- Si Chen has assumed the role of chief operating officer (COO) at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS). The company had announced his appointment in October. Coming from the post of CEO and representative director of Inspire Entertainment Resort in Incheon, South Korea, he will oversee day-to-day operational performance.
Resorts World Sentosa said that Chen’s appointment reflects a “continued focus on leadership renewal and sustained operational performance as the resort advances its transformation under RWS 2.0.”
As COO, Si will assist RWS chief executive officer, Lee Shi Ruh. He has nearly two decades of international experience in the gaming and hospitality industry.
“We welcome Mr. Si and look forward to his contributions as RWS continues its journey of transformation and growth, reinforcing its position as the leading integrated resort and premier tourism destination in Asia,” RWS said in a press release.
Over the weekend, Chen posted a farewell to INSPIRE: “Today I say goodbye to my beloved Inspire. It was the biggest professional challenge of my life – a multi-billion dollar landmark of national significance but plagued with financing and licensing hurdles, construction delays and labor shortages, all took place during Covid,” he wrote.
Chen noted that the resort turned EBITDA positive in the first full year of operation and surpassed “neighbouring frienemy” in gross gaming revenue in September.
“While any of these posts inevitably goes back to recognising the team and people we work with, I do feel that being in Korea, with that almost stubbornly emotional connection to the company and each other, and that “Pali Pali” mindset, our Inspire team was really the secret sauce in achieving the opening and ramp up. And for that, I thank my wonderful colleagues and feeling grateful knowing that now I have so many friends in this fascinating country,” he concluded.
