China.- Lottery ticket sales in China reached 627.97bn yuan (US$90bn) in 2025, up 0.7 per cent year-on-year. That’s according to data released by the Ministry of Finance on Thursday, January 29.
Welfare lottery ticket sales were 208.58bn yuan (US$29.8bn), a 0.3 per cent rise from 2024, while sports-related lottery ticket sales were 419.39bn yuan (US$60.2bn), up 0.9 per cent. Combined December sales were 52.35bn yuan (US$7.52bn, down 9.1 per cent compared with December 2024.
Funds generated from lottery ticket sales in China are distributed under rules to cover administrative expenses, public welfare projects and prize funds. The welfare lottery primarily supports social initiatives such as education, poverty alleviation, elderly care and healthcare, while the sports lottery contributes to the development of national sports infrastructure.
Industry analysts note that the lottery market’s moderate growth in 2025 was driven by stable consumer participation despite minor seasonal declines.
