Crown Perth contributes approximately AU$1.2bn annually to Western Australia’s economy.
Australia.- On December 30, Crown Perth celebrated 40 years since opening. Over four decades, the property has grown to include three hotels, including Australia’s only Forbes Five Star hotel in Crown Towers, more than 30 restaurants and bars, Crown Theatre, and a convention space.
“From its origins as Australia’s largest casino and the third largest globally at the time, Crown has evolved into a world-class integrated resort that has shaped Perth’s cultural and economic landscape,” said the operator.
Around 1000 team members were employed when the property opened its doors as Burswood Island Casino on December 30 1985. Today, Crown Perth is the largest single-site employer in Western Australia, with more than 5000 team members.
As part of the milestone celebration, throughout December, Crown revived the spirit of the 1980s, with activities and events including a photographic exhibition showcasing the evolution of the Burswood Peninsula and paying tribute to dedicated team members who have worked at the venue over 40 years. A time capsule containing memories from 1985, as well as items from today, will also be buried on site – ready to be revealed again in 2065.
Crown Perth CEO Brian Pereira said there are eight ‘Day One’ employees who still work at Crown, and another dozen who started working at Crown in 1986, within months of the official opening. “Anyone who has worked at Crown will tell you it is the people who make the place so special, and that rings true today,” he said.
And added: “This milestone is an opportunity to celebrate our team members, guests and partners who have made this journey possible and to this day, help us create memorable experiences.”
