Exploring Online Gambling in Denmark: A Profound Study
In a bid to unravel the intricacies of online gambling, the Danish Gambling Authority has unveiled its latest research project, aptly titled “Online Gambling in Denmark.” This extensive study, conducted in collaboration with Statistics Denmark, casts a spotlight on the evolving landscape of online wagering in the country.
This illuminating study delves deep into the gambling habits of Danish citizens, with a particular emphasis on their engagement with websites lacking a Danish gambling license. The findings are both enlightening and thought-provoking.
Key Revelations: A Glimpse into the Data
The study paints a vivid picture, revealing that a notable 21.7% of Danes aged 15 and above have ventured into online gambling over the past year. This equates to approximately 1.1 million individuals. Intriguingly, despite the legal age limit for online gambling in Denmark being 18, 15% of 15–17-year-olds have also partaken, amounting to around 32,000 young participants.
To attain these invaluable insights, the Danish Gambling Authority executed a meticulous questionnaire survey, with data meticulously gathered by Statistics Denmark. A randomly selected sample of 30,070 Danes aged 15 and above received the questionnaire, with a substantial 7,637 responses collected online between November 24, 2022, and January 15, 2023.
Licensed vs. Unlicensed Gambling: Where the Action Is
One of the study’s pivotal findings revolves around the choice of gambling platforms. It underscores that the majority of Danish players prefer websites armed with a valid Danish gambling license. These platforms fall under the vigilant supervision of the Danish Gambling Authority, strictly adhering to the nation’s gambling legislation, aimed at safeguarding players’ interests.
Interestingly, a mere 3.8% of participants have dabbled in online gambling on unlicensed sites in the past year. These sites typically offer a gamut of options, including online casino games, betting, and skin betting.
Delving further, the study unveils that over half of those who ventured into unlicensed gambling did so intentionally. Their reasons are varied, ranging from the availability of diverse games to higher payouts and enticing bonuses.
Licensed Sites: A Preferred Haven
Intriguingly, the research highlights that half of Danish online gamblers, within the past year, deliberately chose sites with a Danish gambling license. Citing reasons such as control, supervision, credibility, and the use of the Danish language, these players have found solace and trust in licensed platforms.
The allure of control, the reassurance of supervision, the hallmark of credibility, and the familiarity of the Danish language collectively make licensed sites a preferred destination for Danish gamblers.
As the Danish Gambling Authority continues to illuminate the gambling landscape, these insights pave the way for a more informed and player-centric approach to online gambling in Denmark.
