Dave Whimpey appointed as interim CEO and COO of The Star Brisbane

Whimpey joins the casino operator as the business enters a new phase following the opening of the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct.

Australia.- The Star Entertainment Group has named Dave Whimpey as chief operating officer and interim chief executive officer of The Star Brisbane. The appointment, awaiting regulatory approval, forms part of a wider leadership overhaul.

Whimpey began his career at Jupiter’s Casino. He has held senior leadership roles at KPMG, Tabcorp, and Coles and was most recently the chief executive officer of SurfLife Saving Queensland.

In a LinkedIn post announcing his appointment on Monday, The Star said Whimpey joins the property “at a pivotal time” as the business enters a new phase following the opening of the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct. Whimpey will oversee day-to-day operations at The Star Brisbane and aim to strengthen engagement with regulators, stakeholders and the wider community.

He said: “I’m excited to be joining The Star at such a pivotal time as the business embarks on a new era focused on rebuilding, revitalisation, and restoring confidence. There is a significant opportunity ahead, and I’m committed to working closely with the refreshed board, management, and our professional team members to contribute positively to the city’s future and the communities we are part of.”

Last week, the Stat appointed John Koster as chief executive officer of The Star Sydney, subject to regulatory approval.
