The October Golden Week runs from September 29 to October 6.
Macau.- Record visitors are expected for the October Golden Week holiday period from September 29 to October 6. Andy Wu, president of the Macau Tourism Industry Association, told Macau Daily that he predicts that tourist arrivals will exceed last year’s daily average of 140,000 visitors.
Wu said additional bus services and temporary traffic restrictions at popular attractions are planned to deal with the influx.
Analysts expect daily gross gambling revenue to average MOP1.05bn (US$131m) through the eight-day holiday period. That comes after GGR reached MOP22.16bn (US$2.76bn) in August, the best monthly performance since January 2020, just before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Jefferies analysts Anne Ling and Jingjue Pei expect GGR growth of between 13.8 per cent and 15.3 per cent year-on-year for the third quarter of 2025 amid events such as the NBA China Games and Macau Grand Prix.
Citigroup has revised upwards its gross gaming revenue (GGR) forecast for the full year to MOP248.6bn (US$31.1bn), up from a previous estimate of MOP235.7bn (US$29.15bn). Analysts George Choi and Timothy Chau noted that this would imply 14-per cent year-on-year growth for the rest of the year. They noted that casino operators are “strategically organising some heavyweight events after Golden Week,” including Jackson Wang concerts at the Galaxy Arena.
“If these events are successful in boosting gaming volumes post-Golden Week, our October GGR forecast of MOP$23bn (US$2.86bn) could prove conservative,” the analysts said.
