Malaysia.- The New York State Gaming Commission has unanimously approved a full casino licence for Genting Malaysia’s Resorts World New York City property in Queens. Through its US unit, Genting New York LLC, the Malaysian gaming group secured one of three downstate New York licences, alongside projects led by Hard Rock International and Bally’s Corp.
Since those projects require entirely new construction, Resorts World New York City will be the only fully functioning casino in New York for several years. The venue opened in 2011 as a racino. Until now, it has offered electronic gaming only. The new licence will allow it to add live table games.
The company has told regulators that table-game operations could begin within six months of receiving final approval, potentially allowing Genting to start full casino operations by Juney 2026.
Genting proposes a US$5.5bn expansion plan extending to 2030 to transform Resorts World New York City into a large integrated resort with a 500,000-square-foot gaming floor, up to 6,000 slot machines and 800 table games, 2,000 hotel rooms, a 7,000-seat entertainment venue, meeting and convention space, and more than 30 food and beverage outlets alongside public green space.
Genting committed to a US$600m upfront licence fee in exchange for the 30-year operating licence.
