The months to come will see many more events celebrating the Year of the Horse.
Hong Kong.- The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has noted a large crowd at Sha Tin Racecourse for its 2026 Year of the Horse Raceday on February 19. The event was part of the club’s year-long “Riding High Together with Hong Kong” campaign, which aims to highlight the role horse racing plays in Hong Kong’s identity, economy and global reputation.
Officiating at the opening ceremony were Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government; Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism; Martin Liao, chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club; and CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges. Club Stewards and jockeys were also in attendance, extending Lunar New Year greetings to racegoers and visitors.
Beyond the racecard, the day featured themed programmes, blessing points, interactive photo spots and the unveiling of two “Harmonious Horses” sculptures created by Hong Kong artist Simon Ma, each standing more than three metres tall. The sculptures are intended to symbolise unity between the club and the community and marked the launch of the Harmonious Horse International Exhibition Tour, which will see them travel across Hong Kong throughout the year.
Also drawing attention was HKJC’s float from the International Chinese New Year Night Parade, displayed at the racecourse following its appearance on the first day of Lunar New Year festivities.
The Year of the Horse campaign will culminate in October with the launch of racing and entertainment at the Club’s Conghua Racecourse in Guangzhou.
