Authorities reported that gambling-related material represented 62 per cent of all removal requests issued to online platforms in 2025.
Malaysia.- Gambling-related content accounted for the largest share of online takedown requests issued by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission in 2025. Speaking in the Dewan Negara, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said they accounted for 62 per cent of all requests.
Data shared during the parliamentary session showed that gambling-related takedown requests totalled 293,057 in 2025, compared with 196,510 in 2024. Scam-related content, including fake accounts and impersonation, represented 21 per cent of requests, while offensive content accounted for seven per cent.
The regulator made 576,269 gambling-related takedown requests between 2022 and March 1, 2026. According to Teo, the increase in removal requests reflects several factors, including more proactive monitoring by the regulator, greater public awareness of complaint channels and the growing use of artificial intelligence tools to disseminate harmful online material.
The minister added that enforcement actions are carried out in line with the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and the Online Safety Act 2025.
