India.- Actors Vijay Deverakonda and Prakash Raj have again been summoned by the Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) for questioning in an ongoing investigation into the alleged promotion of illegal online betting platforms. The actors were directed to appear before the CID today as part of a separate case from the one being pursued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The ED probe, launched earlier this year, involves 29 public figures, including Rana Daggubati, Nidhhi Agerwal, Sreemukhi, and Lakshmi Manchu, accused of endorsing illegal platforms in India. The investigation led to a series of raids across Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Punjab, resulting in eight arrests. Authorities allege that promotions disguised gambling apps as entertainment or charity initiatives, potentially misleading users and violating national gambling laws.
Following his appearance before the ED, Vijay Deverakonda said he had fully cooperated with investigators and that his involvement was with a skill-based gaming company in 2016.
Earlier this year, the Telangana police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against 25 celebrities and influencers, following a complaint that accused them of accepting payments to promote gambling apps that targeted young adults and lower-middle-class users. The FIR invoked provisions of the Telangana Gaming Act and the Information Technology Act.
