The country’s financial regulator has ordered banks to strengthen monitoring systems.
Indonesia.- Between September 2023 and December 2025, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) ordered banks to block more than 30,000 accounts suspected of being linked to illegal online gambling. Chief Banking Supervisor Dian Ediana Rae said banks had also been directed to take a more proactive role in identifying gambling-related transactions.
This includes the use of web crawling and transaction monitoring tools to detect accounts operating on online gambling platforms. This includes cyber patrols of customer accounts and the refinement of alert parametres to enable earlier identification of suspicious transaction patterns. Institutions are also being encouraged to share data and intelligence on emerging gambling methods.
Between October 2024 and September 2025, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs removed more than 2.8 million pieces of harmful online content, including over 2.1 million items related to online gambling.
