Macau.- The Las Vegas Sands Corp has announced that it will discontinue its igaming unit, Sands Digital Services (SDS), to maintain its focus on gaming assets in Macau and Singapore. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that this move affects between 300 and 400 employees, including approximately 150 positions in Las Vegas.
In a letter to affected employees, Sands president and CEO Patrick Dumont said: “Investments in SDS were made with the understanding there would be multiple points in the process where we would assess the most pragmatic path forward.
“Ultimately, we reached a moment in which it was clear to executive leadership and our board of directors that further pursuit of this business was no longer aligned with the company’s core long-term objectives.”
Dumont added: “We continually meet and exceed the commitments we have made to our host markets in Macau and Singapore. Our dedication to our business partners and local communities remains an important part of our identity, as does our commitment to being the most shareholder friendly company in the gaming and hospitality industry. As a company, we have much to look forward to in the years to come.”
