Gaming-related service exports pushed Macau’s economy closer to pre-pandemic levels.
Macau.- Preliminary figures released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) show that Macau’s gross domestic product reached MOP417.28bn (US$51.9bn) in 2025. That’s a rise of 4.7 per cent year-on-year in real terms and equivalent to 89.6 per cent of the city’s pre-pandemic output in 2019.
Momentum accelerated in the fourth quarter, when GDP climbed 7.6 per cent year-on-year to MOP115.39bn (US$12bn), representing 94.1 per cent of the economic output recorded in the same period of 2019. The performance was boosted by a rise in visitor arrivals aided by large-scale events and government initiatives aimed at revitalising tourism flows into the casino hub.
Exports of services, a category that includes gaming and tourism revenues, increased by 9.8 per cent in the fourth quarter, fuelled by a 15.4 per cent rise in visitor numbers. The figures underline the continued role of Macau’s gaming sector.
Domestic demand showed more modest growth. Government final consumption expenditure rose by 1.3 per cent, while private consumption increased by 1.1 per cent. Gross fixed capital formation, a proxy for investment, rose 0.9 per cent.
