Macau.- JP Morgan analysts have reported that casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) in Macau was MOP4.45bn (US$554.4m) in the first seven days of September That’s a daily average of MOP635m (US$79.1m).
The analysts forecast that GGR in September will grow between 10 per cent and 13 per cent year-over-year. While it would be softer than July and August owing to usual seasonality, it would make the total GGR for Q3 2025 the highest in 23 quarters, up between 14 per cent and 15 per cent year-over-year.
Analysts DS Kim, Selina Li and Lindsey Qian noted that the double digit growth suggest the sequential slowdown is within normal seasonality.
Deutsche Bank Securities projects a 13.6 per cent year-on-year rise for September, above the industry consensus of 10 per cent. Analyst Steve Pizzella said historical trends suggested GGR could even climb as high as 17.5 per cent, but Seaport Research Partners’ Vitaly Umansky cautioned that adverse weather, including typhoons, could hold back numbers, as seen in September 2024 when storms impacted travel.
The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) reported that Macau’s GGR was MOP22.16bn (US$2.76bn) in August. That’s an increase of 12.2 per cent in year-on-year terms and slightly higher than July’s GGR of MOP22.13bn (US$2.73bn). That makes it the best monthly performance since January 2020, just before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
