Macau gaming staff numbers remained steady year-on-year while the number of directors and managers rose more significantly
Macau.- The number of people engaged in the Macau gaming sector was up very slightly year-on-year from 53,163 to 53,272 in the last quarter of 2024. That’s according to the latest data from the city’s Special Administrative Region Statistics and Census Service. The number of full-time employees reached 53,075, an increase of 100 from Q4 2024.
Some 30,943, or 58.3 per cent, of full-time workers were female, with males making up 41.7 per cent. Clerical staff made up the largest segment of the workforce, numbering 41,031, a decline of 1.1 per cent. Within this category, dealers accounted for 23,755 employees, up just 0.6 per cent.
The number of directors and managers rose by 15.5 per cent to 3,482, while technicians and associate professionals declined slightly to 2,248. The number of service and sales workers increased by 2.1 per cent year-on-year to 4,545.
Full-time employees earned an average of MOP28,020 (US$3,476) in December 2025 excluding irregular remuneration. That’s a rise of 4.2 per cent from a year earlier. Directors and managers saw the highest earnings at MOP71,660 (US$8,895), up 4 per cent year-on-year, while service and sales workers’s average pay rose 15.2 per cent to MOP25,110 (US$3,115).
Technicians and associate professionals received an average of MOP29,650 (US$3,678), up 3.4 per cent while clerical staff saw their average pay rise by 1.2 per cent to MOP24,760 (US$3,071).
The employee turnover rate (1.4 per cent) and job vacancy rate (0.4 per cent) in the gaming sector both fell by 0.1 percentage point compared with last year. The sector’s reliance on shift work remains high, as 94.8 per cent or 50,334 of full-time employees were engaged in rotating or scheduled shifts during the quarter. The number decreased slightly from 50,379 in Q4 2024.
