Macau casinos announce discretionary bonus for employees

Macau.- The six Macau gaming operators have announced, through different press releases, that they would be paying an extra month’s salary.

Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has decided to distribute a one-month bonus, equivalent to one month’s salary, to around 97 per cent of its employees on January 25. In its press release, the company thanked its team members “for their hard work and contribution during the past year” and “for their collective and continued efforts in supporting GEG’s commitment to facilitating the diverse and sustainable development of Macau’s integrated tourism and leisure industry.”

MGM China also announced a discretionary bonus, equivalent to one month’s salary, for eligible team members in recognition of their dedication and contributions throughout 2024. The bonus will benefit approximately 95 per cent of its team members and will be distributed in two phases around the Lunar New Year of 2025.

Wynn Macau has announced that 98 per cent of its current workforce, which totals 11,317 employees, will receive a special allowance equivalent to one month’s salary on January 21. 

Linda Chen, Wynn Macau’s president, vice chair and executive director, said that the company will “continue working hand in hand with all sectors of society to build a better Macau, promoting the city’s appropriate economic diversification, sustainable and high-quality development.”

Among those confirming bonuses is also SJM Resorts which will grant its staff a “special discretionary bonus” equivalent to one month’s salary on January 20.

Daisy Ho, managing director of SJM, thanked the employees for their efforts and contributions and said: “SJM Resorts continuously optimised and innovated its products and service experiences in 2024, achieving steady improvements in business development that are inseparable from the hard work of every team member.”

Melco Resorts & Entertainment has announced a one-month discretionary bonus for non-management employees in Macau and Hong Kong. The allowance is set to be granted before Chinese New Year.

In the company’s press release, Melco’s chairman said: “The bonus payout recognises our colleagues’ hard work and support over the past year. We are grateful to our colleagues for their loyalty and commitment in ensuring our guests’ expectations are constantly exceeded.”

Sands China has announced that it will give a bonus equivalent to one month’s salary to eligible employees. However, unlike other casino operators, it also announced a salary increase.

Starting on March 1, salaries will increase by 2.5 to 5 per cent, depending on pre-tax monthly wages. Those earning up to MOP16,000 will receive a pay rise of MOP600. Those with higher salaries will see a 2.5 per cent increase. Employees who have been with the company for one year or more will receive a discretionary bonus equal to one month’s pay. This bonus will be paid on January 27 to non-management team members.

Sands China CEO Grant Chum, said, “As we look back at another successful year for Sands China, we can all be proud of what we have achieved together as a team.”
