Casinos close when typhoon signals reach no. 8 or above.
Macau.- Casinos in Macau are on alert amid the approach of Super Typhoon Ragasa, which could lead to the temporary closure of venues. As usual, the government will order the closure of all casinos if the typhoon reaches signal 8 or above. Macau’s weather bureau said on Monday there was a “high probability” it would reach signal 8 from Tuesday (September 23) afternoon to evening.
According to current meteorological projections, Super Typhoon Ragasa is likely to pass within 100 kilometres to the south of Macau on Wednesday (September 24) morning. The storm is likely to bring prolonged severe weather and storm surges, with flooding comparable to Typhoons Hato and Mangkhut.
When Signal No. 8 or above is issued, public bus services in Macau, including the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge shuttle bus service, and the light rapid transit rail system are also suspended.
The Government has activated its emergency response mechanism, implementing arrangements covering three phases: pre-typhoon preparedness, storm response, and post-storm recovery. Sam Hou Fai, Macau’ chief executive, convened a press conference on Monday alongside five secretaries to outline preparations. Fai urged vigilance and compliance with directives.
“Following the typhoon, employers should flexibly arrange staff attendance as appropriate and allow sufficient time for employees to return to their workplaces,” he said.
