The Leisure Bus 2.0 initiative will expand to 14 routes.
Macau.- The Macau SAR Government has announced the expansion of its casino concessionaire-backed community shuttle bus programme. From tomorrow (July 17), the “Leisure Bus 2.0 – Exploring Community Charms” programme will expand from 10 to 14 routes. It will remain in operation through January 3, 2027, covering key tourism periods such as the summer holidays, China’s National Day Golden Week, Christmas and New Year.
The initiative forms part of the government’s efforts to stimulate non-gaming community-based tourism and support small and medium-sized businesses. Macau’s six gaming concessionaires operate the existing 10 community shuttle routes connecting integrated resorts with local neighbourhoods. The four new routes, operated by the local tourism sector, will connect the Ruins of St. Paul’s and Rua do Cunha in Taipa – two of Macau’s busiest tourist attractions – with residential districts.
Now with 14 routes, the programme will have 10 community stops and two core tourist hubs designed to encourage visitors to explore Macau’s cultural attractions, local dining and retail offerings outside traditional gaming areas. Nearly 20,000 passengers have used the free shuttle service so far, while the programme’s mobile information platform, which promotes almost 400 local merchants and tourism offerings, had recorded more than 30,000 page views as of July 13. Government officials said public feedback has generally been positive and that the project has successfully begun directing visitor flows into Macau’s neighbourhoods.
The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) said it had coordinated the shuttle schedules operated by the gaming concessionaires to integrate them with the newly introduced tourism routes. Services will operate during weekends and public holidays, with additional Friday operations in July and August to accommodate increased visitor demand during the summer tourism season.
