Macau.- There was a 70.1 per cent year-on-year increase in gaming-related crime in Macau in the first nine months of 2025 due to new legislation that banned money traders outside gaming venues. There were 1,737 cases compared to 1,021 a year ago.
Secretary for security Chan Tsz King said, police arrested 4,475 individuals between January and September, up 8.8 per cent from 2024. That’s despite a 71 per cent year-on-year decline in overall crime cases to 10,058, with decreases in theft, robbery, fraud, computer crimes and violent crimes.
However, Chan also cautioned that scam tactics are changing with AI deepfake tech now in Macau.
