Macau gaming sector receipts and expenditure rose in 2024

Total receipts and expenditure rose by 23.1 per cent and 18 per cent respectively.

Macau.- The Macau Statistics and Census Service has reported that total receipts and expenditure from the city’s gaming sector reached MOP231.45bn (US$28.91bn) and MOP94.37bn (US$11.79bn) respectively in 2024. That’s an increase of 23.1 per cent and 18 per cent in year-on-year terms.

Operating expenses reached MOP40.58bn (US$5bn) while spending on goods, commissions, and customer rebates reached MOP23.2bn (US$2.9bn). Both figures were up by 28 per cent in year-on-year terms. Non-operating expenses were MOP9.10bn (US$1.14bn), down 9.6 per cent compared to the previous year.

Employee compensation was MOP21.48bn (US$2.68bn), up 7 per cent. The number of full-time employees was up 2.3 per cent to 52,971 by the end of December.

Spending on complementary goods and services for customers, such as hotel stays and food and drinks, totalled MOP25.58bn (US$3.2bn). That’s an increase of 31.1 per cent. Management services and contractual services reached MOP6.99bn (US$0.87bn), up 29.4 per cent, and market research and publicity stood at MOP2.67bn (US$0.33bn), up 28 per cent year-on-year.

The gross surplus for the sector before taxes was MOP143.12bn (US$17.88bn). That’s an increase of 24.7 per cent in year-on-year terms. In 2024, there were nine entities with gaming activities in the city: six casino operators and two businesses involved in lotteries. One stopped its gaming operations during the year. The data does not include information on hotels, retail or other associated businesses.
