Macau GGR rises 6% year-over-year in September

Gross gaming revenue amounted to MOP18.3bn (US$2.27bn) in the ninth month of the year.

Macau.- The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has reported that Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) was MOP18.3bn (US$2.27bn) in September. That’s an increase of 6 per cent in year-on-year terms, but 17.5 per cent behind August, when GGR reached MOP22.16bn (US$2.77bn), the highest monthly total of 2025 so far. 

Casino operations in September were disrupted by Super Typhoon Ragasa, which led to a government-mandated closure of casinos for 33 hours. The GGR result was in line with Citigroup’s downgraded forecast of MOP18.5bn (US$2.3bn).

Cumulatively, Macau’s GGR for the first nine months of 2025 was MOP181.3bn (US$22.5bn), up 7.1 per cent year-on-year. The figure was 17.7 per cent below pre-pandemic levels (MOP220.2bn / US$27.4bn). Looking ahead, analysts have high expectations for this year’s October Golden Week holiday period.

In July, the Legislative Assembly passed the 2025 fiscal budget amendment bill, which forecasts annual gaming tax revenue of MOP79.8bn (US$9.87bn), 5 per cent lower than previously expected. The government cut its GGR estimate from MOP240bn ($29.69bn) to MOP228bn ($28.2bn). At the time of the revised forecast, Ho In Mui, deputy director of the Financial Services Bureau, cited global economic conditions and changes in tourist consumption patterns as factors.
