Inbound package tour visitors decreased 18.8 per cent year-over-year but increased 7.4 per cent month-on-month.
Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service of Macau (DSEC) has reported that the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotels was 92.9 per cent in August, up 1.5 per cent year-on-year. The number of hotel guests was 1,303,000, up 3 per cent.
The number of inbound package tour visitors to the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) was 162,000, down 18.8 per cent year-over-year to but up 7.4 per cent month-over-month.
At the end of August, there were 147 hotels, three more than last year. The number of available guest rooms was 45,000, up 1.3 per cent. The rates for 5-star (95.7 per cent) and 4-star hotels (88.2 per cent) increased 2.2 per cent and 1.6 per cent respectively, while the rate for 3-star hotels (89.9 per cent) decreased 0.9 per cent. The average length of stay of guests remained at 1.6 nights.
According to the figures, the number of guests from the Chinese mainland (991,000) increased 2.4 per cent year-over-year and international guests (87,000) 20.3 per cent. The number of guests from Thailand (8,000) increased 157.7 per cent, and those from the Republic of Korea (28,000), Japan (10,000), Singapore (5,000) and Malaysia (5,000) 6 per cent, 58.2 per cent, 36.2 per cent and 29.2 per cent respectively. The number of guests coming from India (5,000) fell by 5.7 per cent.
The number of tour visitors from the Chinese mainland dropped 24 per cent to 142,000, while international tour visitors was up by 30.2 per cent to 14,000.
In the first eight months of 2025, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms was 89.8 per cent, up 4.3 per cent from the same period in 2024. The number of guests increased by 0.1 per cent to 9,791,000, while the average length of stay of guests remained at 1.7 nights.
The DSEC recently reported that the number of visitor arrivals to Macau set a new monthly record of 4,219,034 in August, up 15.5 per cent year-on-year. Same-day visitors (2,553,316) and overnight visitors (1,665,718) rose by 25.1 per cent and 3.4 per cent year-on-year, respectively.
The director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, expects to see a daily influx of 150.000 visitors during this year’s October Golden Week holiday period from October 1-7.
