Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported the average occupancy rate at hotels in Macau rose by 3.1 percentage points year-on-year to 89.4 per cent in 2025. The number of guests at hotels increased by 1 per cent year-on-year to 14,560,000. Meanwhile, the number of inbound package tour visitors dropped by 9.7 per to 1,912,000 owing to a decrease in those from the Chinese mainland. International tour visitors rose by 17.2 per cent to 240,000.
At the end of 2025, there were 147 hotels offering accommodation to the public, an increase of 1 year-on-year. The number of available guest rooms rose by 4.9 per cent to 45,000. The rates for 5-star (92.9 per cent), 4-star (83.8 per cent) and 3-star hotels (85 per cent) showed respective growth of 4.4 , 1.8 and 1.2 percentage points.
Guests from the Chinese mainland (10,735,000) rose by 1.4 per cent and international guests (1,238,000) by 11.8 per cent. Among the latter, those from the Republic of Korea (350,000), Japan (102,000), Malaysia (93,000) and Thailand (88,000) rose by 9.3 per cent, 25.5 per cent, 6.5 per cent and 33.4 per cent respectively. Those from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (1,774,000) fell by 4.1 per cent. The average length of stay remained at 1.7 nights.
As more Mainland visitors travelled to the Macao Special Administrative Region under the Individual Visit Scheme, the number of inbound package tour visitors from the Chinese mainland fell by 15.7 per cent to 1,588,000.
The DSEC reported that the average occupancy rate of guest rooms in December was 90.4 per cent, up by 1.2 percentage points year-on-year. Guest numbers increased by 5.8 per cent to 1,252,000, while the average length of stay extended by 0.1 night to 1.7 nights. A total of 181,000 inbound package tour visitors were recorded, down by 11.9 per cent year-on-year. International tour visitors grew by 26.4 per cent to 28,000.
In January, the DSEC reported that the number of visitor arrivals to Macau reached 40,069,360 in 2025. That’s a rise of 14.7 per cent year-on-year, above Macau’s Government Tourism Office (MGTO) forecast of between 38 and 39 million. Same-day visitors (23,524,943) and overnight visitors (16,544,417) rose by 24.6 per cent and 3.1 per cent respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.1 days, due to growth in the proportion of same-day visitors. The duration of stay for same-day visitors (0.2 day) and overnight visitors (2.3 days) remained unchanged.
