Macau.- Junket operators have expressed opposition to the bill on credit for gambling. They have written the city’s Legislative Assembly to protest at being banned from granting credit. Chan Chak Mo, president of the Legislative Assembly’s 2nd Standing Committee, has confirmed receipt of the letter. 

The proposed legislation would allow only gaming concessionaires to provide credit to players. Any violation of this provision could result in a maximum fine of MOP5m (US$620,000). The government’s rationale revolves around mitigating risks, but junket operators say the existing system boosts Macau’s gaming tax revenues. A final vote at the Legislative Assembly is set for April. I
