Macau.- There were approximately 873,000 inbound visitor arrivals to Macau during mainland China’s Labour Day Golden Week holiday, which ran from May 1 to 5. That’s a rise of 2.7 per cent compared to last year. The peak was on May 2, the second day, which set a new single-day record of 247,000.

According to data from the Public Security Police Force, the total number of border crossings during the five-day holiday reached 3.8 million, a year-on-year increase of 1.6 per cent.

On May 1, Macau registered 203,000 inbound visitors, a year-on-year increase of 14 per cent. Border crossings that day reached 809,000. Arrivals eased to 182,000 on May 3 amid adverse weather conditions. There were 187,000 traveller movements on May 5, the final day of the holiday: 83,000 inbound arrivals and 104,000 departures.

Macau’s tourism sector saw 11.21 million visitors in the first quarter, according to data from the Statistics and Census Service. The figure represents a 13.7 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. March saw 3.39 million arrivals, a 10.6 per cent year-on-year rise.
