The city recorded more than 227,943 visitor arrivals on the fifth day of the holiday break.
Macau.- Immigration data released by the Public Security Police Force (PSP) indicates that a 227,943 visitors entered the city on Thursday (February 19), the fifth day of Chinese New Year, which runs from February 15 to 23. The figure sets a new all-time high for daily inbound visitors.
The city’s border checkpoints recorded a 750,114 cross-border movements on Thursday. Inbound movements, including non-visitors, totalled 388,456. Outbound movements reached 361,658, including 220,785 visitors. Most travellers entered through the Border Gate, followed by Hengqin Port and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.
Macau recorded 779,566 visitor arrivals over the first five days of the Lunar New Year Golden Week, an average of 155,913 per day. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, the director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), had forecast a daily influx of 158,000 to 175,000 arrivals and between 1.4 and 1.5 million over the whole nine-day holiday period. Last year’s tally was 1.31 million.
