Macau sees rise in authorised junket operators for 2026

The number of licensed junket operators in Macau has increased by five.

Macau.- The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has announced that 29 licensed gaming promoters, known as junkets, have been authorised to operate in the city’s casino sector this year. That’s an increase of five from the 24 operators announced a year ago. The cap on casino junket operators for this year remains at 50, the same as in 2025

Macau’s gaming law includes a statute that imposes a limit on the number of junkets each of the city’s six casino operators can engage with. The limit varies for each operator and is determined by the city’s Secretary for Economy and Finance.

Sands China and SJM Holdings hold the largest allocations, with 12 junkets each permitted at their respective casinos. MGM China Holdings and Melco Resorts & Entertainment are each authorised to work with eight junkets while Galaxy Entertainment Group and Wynn Macau have caps of five junket partners each.

Since January 2023, junkets have been barred from sharing in casino revenue and are limited to a 1.25 per cent commission on rolling turnover. Since August 2024, they are also prohibited from issuing gambling credit, a function now reserved for casino concessionaires under the Legal Regime of Credit Concession.

Macau GGR rises 24% year-over-year in January

The DICJ reported that Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) was MOP22.63bn (US$2.81bn) in January. That’s an increase of 24 per cent in year-on-year terms and 8.4 per cent from December 2025. It was the highest January total since 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Macau’s GGR for 2025 was MOP247.40bn (US$30.9bn). That’s a rise of 9.1 per cent year-on-year and surpassed the government forecast of MOP228bn. The figure represented 84.6 per cent of the 2019 total of MOP292.46bn (US$36.5 billion) before the Covid-19 pandemic.
