Macau visitor arrivals jump 14.5% in July

The city received 3.46 million visitors.


Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that 3.46 million people visited Macau in July 2025, a 14.5 per cent increase compared to the same month last year. As usual, visitation was led by the Chinese mainland, while there was also growth from Hong Kong and Taiwan. The city continued to see mixed results from international markets.

Mainland China contributed 2.56 million tourists, or 74.1 per cent of the total. Visitors travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme rose by 23.6 per cent year-on-year to 1.36 million, accounting for more than half of all mainland arrivals. Visitors from the Greater Bay Area’s nine Pearl River Delta cities rose by 23 per cent to 1.22 million. Zhuhai stood out with a 56.8 per cent increase.

Hong Kong and Taiwan also saw year-on-year growth, with 625,343 and 92,037 visitors respectively, up 6.2 per cent and 21.4 per cent. International arrivals remained comparatively modest, totalling 177,774, just 5.1 per cent of the overall figure. Among Southeast Asian markets, Thailand showed the strongest momentum with a 48.9 per cent increase, while Indonesia and Singapore posted smaller gains. By contrast, arrivals from the Philippines and Malaysia declined by 11.8 per cent and 9.6 per cent, respectively.

South Asian and Northeast Asian markets also showed weakness, with visitor numbers from India, Korea, and Japan all down year-on-year. Arrivals from the United States rose 6.2 per cent to 15,796.

Land arrivals accounted for 83.3 per cent of the total, or nearly 2.88 million people. The Hengqin port saw the sharpest growth at 43.2 per cent, while Border Gate traffic rose by 20.1 per cent. By contrast, sea arrivals fell 2.6 per cent to 323,296, and air arrivals dropped 8.6 per cent to 253,827.

Same-day visitors rose by 24.1 per cent to 2 million, while overnight arrivals rose by 3.7 per cent to 1.48 million. The average length of stay held steady at 1.2 days, with overnight visitors staying 2.4 days on average and same-day visitors shortening their duration slightly to 0.2 days.

From January to July, Macau saw 22.68 million tourists, a 14.9 per cent increase year-on-year. Same-day visitors climbed 25.5 per cent to 13.16 million, while overnight stays were up 2.8 per cent to 9.51 million.
