Macau.- Investment banking firm Citigroup has reported that Macau’s premium-mass segment exceeded expectations in November. The average wager per player reached HK$26,754 (US$3,430), a 2 per cent increase from the Chinese New Year 2025 holiday period.
According to the bank, total premium-mass wagers rose 19 per cent year-on-year to HK$14.4m (US$1.85m), a “positive surprise” given that November is typically the slowest month in the fourth quarter. The number of premium-mass players was up by 5 per cent to 540. The average baccarat minimum bet rose 5 per cent year-on-year to HK$2,112 (US$271). This was observed on a typical Friday, without any special tourism-related drivers such as concerts, events or festivals.
The numbers support Citigroup’s earlier November GGR estimate of MOP20.5bn (US$2.56bn), an 11 per cent increase from the same period last year.
High-roller activity also saw an uptick, with Citigroup reporting 31 whales in November, up from 21 in the same month last year. The average wager among high-rollers dropped to HK$216,000 ($27,690) from HK$268,000 ($34,360).
The Player of the Month, who wagered HK$1.2m ($153,800), was identified at Wynn Palace’s Chairman’s Club. Other notable bets included HK$800,000 (US$102,560) at MGM Cotai.
Galaxy Entertainment continued to dominate the premium-mass segment, capturing 27 per cent of total wagers observed, up from 21 per cent a year ago. Its two properties attracted eight high-rollers, the highest number among the six operators surveyed. MGM China achieved second spot with a 23 per cent market share, up from 13 per cent in November 2024. The company recorded seven high-rollers across its properties during the period.
