Malaysia.- The Ministry of Communications has said that authorities removed 457,562 pieces of online gambling-related content and blocked 1,778 gambling websites between January 1, 2025 and May 31, 2026. The figures were provided in a written parliamentary response yesterday (July 16), following a question from Datuk Dr Richard Rapu.

According to the ministry, the removals accounted for 98 per cent of the 467,772 takedown requests submitted by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and law enforcement agencies. It added that while the Royal Malaysia Police leads enforcement against illegal gambling under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, the MCMC blocks gambling websites under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and the Online Safety Act 2025.

In a separate parliamentary reply, the ministry noted that the MCMC submitted 275,787 requests to remove scam-related content between January 1, 2022 and June 30, 2026, with service providers acting on 262,293 requests, 95 per cent of the total. The ministry said the government is strengthening efforts to curb online scams through the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) and the Safe Internet Campaign, which has reached 10,303 schools and higher education institutions across the country.
