A court has ordered the company to pay PHP30,000 (US$510) each to 26 former employees.
The Philippines.- The Philippines’ Court of Appeals (CA) has ordered Melco Resorts Leisure Corp to pay PHP30,000 (US$510) each in nominal damages to 26 former employees of City of Dreams Manila. They had had been dismissed under a redundancy program in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The court ruled that while Melco’s redundancy programme was valid, the company failed to comply with the procedural due process requirement of serving a written notice to certain employees at least 30 days before termination. The employees will not be entitled to reinstatement, backpay or any other claims as Melco “did not act in bad faith.”
In September, Melco International Development Limited announced its financial results for the first half of 2025. Net revenue was HK$19.96bn (US$2.56bn), up 12.4 per cent from the same period in 2024, and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation totalled HK$5.37bn (US$688.5m), up from HK$4.49bn (US$575.6m).
