The new off-airport terminal at MGM Cotai is expected to reduce travel friction.
Macau.- MGM Cotai will host the opening of the City Terminal for Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) on February 4. The first-of-its-kind off-airport terminal is part of a collaboration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area designed streamline travel between Macau and Hong Kong and reduce friction and delays for high-spending visitors.
The facility, developed jointly by HKIA, Zhuhai Airport, MGM China and China Travel Tours Transportation Services Hong Kong Limited, will allow passengers to complete check-in, baggage drop and immigration procedures at MGM Cotai before boarding flights. The terminal will have premium transfer services, including direct options like SkyLimo.
The launch comes amid a rebound in regional travel demand. The Statistics and Census Service of Macau (DSEC) reported that the number of visitor arrivals to Macau reached 40,069,360 in 2025, a rise of 14.7 per cent year-on-year. Visitors from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (7,300,582) and the Taiwan region (996,140) were up by 1.7 per cent and 19.4 per cent respectively.
