Myanmar.- Authorities in Myanmar have detained 85 Chinese nationals in a series of coordinated raids targeting illegal online gambling operations in the border town of Muse. The arrests took place after residents reported suspicious activities allegedly linked to gambling and online fraud.
Security forces carried out simultaneous operations in several neighbourhoods, including Kaungmu Tong, Taw Yawt and Suan Saw. Authorities reportedly seized a large volume of equipment, including hundreds of mobile phones, computers and laptops. Officials said the scale and setup of the infrastructure pointed to organised networks capable of running continuous online gambling targeting users across borders.
Authorities noted the use of encrypted messaging apps, VPNs and online payment systems.
Officials said the operation was part of a wider national campaign to dismantle online gambling and fraud networks. Raids carried out in other parts of Shan State had found other compounds equipped with advanced technology, including satellite internet devices.
