Myanmar.- It’s been reported that more than 1,500 foreign nationals were arrested in Shwe Kokko over five days as part of a campaign against large-scale cyber-scam networks operating along the border with Thailand. The settlement had been associated with illegal online gambling, trafficking and mass fraud schemes.
On November 22, authorities detained 223 people. Security forces also seized thousands of computers and phones and more than 100 satellite receivers. The Ministry of Information said junta forces have also demolished 11 more buildings allegedly used for online fraud inside KK Park, another major scam enclave near the Thai border. Since the start of the year, 217 illegal structures at the site have been demolished.
The latest actions bring the number of foreign nationals detained in since January to 12,468. Nearly 10,000 have been deported while over 2,600 are still in custody awaiting transfer, authorities said.
