Lifetime bans are the most common exclusion length, preferred by 39 per cent of users.
Australia.- The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has published new user data for BetStop, revealing that over 30,000 people in Australia are excluded from all online and physical betting services via the platform. According to the data, 31,838 people have active exclusions and 17,544 have either completed or opted out of exclusion periods.
Lifetime bans are the most common exclusion length, preferred by 39 per cent of users, while 38 per cent opt for three-month to two-year bans, 18 per cent choose three-month bans and 5 per cent two to five years or longer.
New South Wales has the highest number of registrants at 15,483, followed by Victoria with 13,164, and Queensland with 10,078. With 395 sign-ups, the Northern Territory has the lowest number of users. Those proportions are to be expected since they reflect the relative differences in population size of each state.
Nearly half (48 per cent) of registrants are 30 or younger, while 31 per cent are 31-40 years old, 13 per cent are 41-50 years old, and 8 per cent are 51 years or older.
Launched by the Australian government in August 2023, BetStop bars registered individuals from opening new accounts or receiving marketing materials from gambling operators. Licensed bookmakers in Australia are required to promote the self-exclusion platform on their websites, apps and marketing materials as part of compliance regulations.
