The government aims to provide detailed regulations in mid-2026.
New Zealand.- The minister of internal affairs, Hon Brooke van Velden has released the cabinet paper for New Zealand’s online casino gambling bill. The paper maintains the previously cited target date of December 1 2026 for the start of regulated online casino gaming.
The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) has said that detailed regulations will be published in mid-2026 to give the sector time to digest them before making applications.
The New Zealand parliament approved the first reading of the Online Casino Gambling Bill in July. Under the current draft, up to 15 online casino licences will be available. The draft was updated in October to increase offshore gambling duty from the originally proposed 12 per cent to 16 per cent, with the difference going to community support.
