The governance reshuffle comes at a pivotal moment for the gaming supplier, as it pursues expansion in the Asia-Pacific region and greater influence in the Australian market.
NOVOMATIC AG has confirmed a reshaping of its Supervisory Board with the appointment of Birgit Wimmer, MSc., MBA, as Chairwoman, a move that coincides with a strategically significant phase for the global gaming technology group, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. The appointment was formalised at the company’s General Meeting and comes as NOVOMATIC advances its bid to strengthen its footprint in Australia through its ongoing takeover attempt of Ainsworth Game Technology.
Wimmer becomes the first woman to lead the Supervisory Board of NOVOMATIC, succeeding Dr. Bernd Oswald, who served on the board for nearly a decade and will now take on another role within the group. Her elevation places an experienced governance and investment executive at the head of the board at a time when NOVOMATIC is seeking to consolidate its position as a major supplier to regulated gaming markets.
A long-standing co-shareholder, Wimmer brings extensive investment and management expertise, combined with many years of experience in the banking sector. Her background includes senior governance roles within NOVOMATIC’s top holding companies, service as a non-executive Member of the Board of Directors of the group’s Swiss holding entities, and executive responsibilities as Managing Director of NOVO Invest GmbH.
“As chairwoman of the Supervisory Board, I look forward to working together with my colleagues on both the Supervisory Board and the Executive Board as we help to successfully shape the Group’s strategic and sustainable development,” Wimmer said following her appointment.
The governance update also includes the election of Haig Asenbauer as deputy chairman. An internationally experienced lawyer, Asenbauer contributes expertise in cross-border M&A transactions, corporate reorganisations and complex investment structures—skills viewed as particularly relevant as NOVOMATIC navigates regulatory and transactional frameworks across multiple jurisdictions. Martina Flitsch and Robert Hofians remain members of the Supervisory Board, providing continuity in areas including international group structures, legal strategy, finance, capital markets and regulation.
