The Philippine resort has resumed full operations, including casino activities.
The Philippines.– NUSTAR Resort & Casino integrated resort has reopened its gaming, hotel, and dining services a day after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit Cebu Island.
The tremor, which struck offshore approximately 19 km northeast of Bogo City late Tuesday night, caused extensive structural damage across northern Cebu and claimed at least 72 lives, according to the Office of Civil Defence (OCD).
In a statement posted on social media Wednesday evening, NUSTAR announced the resumption of operations after conducting thorough safety checks in coordination with local authorities. “All guests, team members, and partners are safe and well cared for,” the resort emphasised. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the earthquake, and we stand by the Cebu community as it recovers and rebuilds.”
The quake’s impact on the tourism and gaming industry has been significant, with over 100 hotels and tourist sites damaged, alongside multiple roads and bridges rendered impassable. The Department of Tourism (DOT) is working with regional directors, airports, and port authorities to assess gateways and support affected tourists and frontliners.
Philippine Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said: “After the 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu last night, I contacted the Office of the President and the Secretaries of National Defence, Transportation, Public Works and Highways, and Health to request urgent assistance,” Frasco stated via the Philippine News Agency (PNA).
