India.- Odisha Police have arrested 18 people in a coordinated statewide operation targeting illegal betting linked to the ongoing 2026 IPL season. The State Police Headquarters said raids were conducted across several districts based on intelligence reports about alleged betting networks operating through digital platforms and on-ground operators.

Around Rs 36.85 lakh (US$38,471) in cash was seized during the raids, while Rs 39.42 lakh (US$41,128) held in various bank accounts linked to suspects has been frozen. Police also seized two vehicles and 13 mobile phones.

In Puri district, four people were arrested, Rs 25.35 lakh (US$26,451) was seized in cash and Rs 31.81 lakh (US$33,192) frozen in bank accounts. Six mobile phones were seized.

In Sundargarh, five suspects were taken into custody following raids in Rajgangpur. Police seized Rs 6 lakh (US$6,263) in cash and froze Rs 17.61 lakh (US$18,388) in accounts. In Jharsuguda, eight arrests were made at rented premises in Brajrajnagar. Police confiscated Rs 5 lakh (US$5,219) in cash, two cars and 41 mobile phones and froze Rs 3.7 lakh (US$3,862). In Berhampur, one person was arrested, and officers seized Rs 50,200 (US$524) in cash and two mobile phones.

Police said preliminary findings indicate that the networks used app-based systems that converted money into virtual credits tied to match outcomes, while local agents handled recruitment and commission-based operations. Investigators are analysing digital evidence in an effort to trace links between operators, financiers and recruiters. Police said more arrests are expected.
